Math Notes Chp.1 Flashcards
algebraic expression
A expression that contains at list one variable.
associative property
An associative property is the property that states that for all real numbers a,b, and c their product is always the same, regardless of their grouping.
coefficient
The number that is multiplied by the variable of an algebraic expression.
commutative property
Being able to add numbers in any order and my multiplies number in any order.
Constant
A value that does not change
Distributive Property
Breaking down the problem to make it easier to solve
Evaluate
To find the value of a numerical or algebraic expression
Identity Property
The sum of 0 and any number is that number. The product of 1 and any number is that number.
Numerical expression
An expression that contains only numbers and operations
Order of operations
A rule for evaluating expressions: first perform the operations in parentheses, the compute powers and roots, then perform and multiplication and division from left to right, and then perform all addition and expression from right to left
Term
Can be a number, a variable, or a product of numbers and variables
Variable
When a letter represents a number that can vary
