Q

What is brownian motion

A

Brownian motion is when particles collide with fluids(liquids or gasses) which send them in a random direction

17
Q

What is a physical change

A

It is a change in which the substances’ properties change but no knew substance is formed

18
Q

What is a chemical change

A

It is a change in which a new substance has been formed because chemical bonds are broken and new ones formed

19
Q

What is the state change called when a substance goes from a solid to a liquid

A

Melting

20
Q

What is the state change called when a substance goes from a liquid to a solid

A

Freezing

21
Q

What is the state change called when a substance goes from a liquid to a gas

A

Evapouration

22
Q

What is the state change called when a substance goes from a gas to a liquid

A

Condensation

23
Q

What is the state change called when a substance goes from a solid to a gas

A

Sublimation

24
Q

What is conduction

A

Conduction Is a type of heat transfer where heat energy is transferred to neighbouring particles

25
Q

What is convection

A

Convection is a type of heat transfer where heat energy is carried by particles

26
Q

What state does conduction occur in

A

Solids

27
Q

What state does convection occur in

A

Fluids(liquids and gasses)

28
Q

What is radiation

A

Radiation dips a type of heat transfer that does not require particles(can happen in a vacuum)

29
Q

Which types of surface absorb heat energy

A

Matte black

30
Q

Which type of surface reflects heat energy

A

Shiny white/silver

31
Q

Why is double glazing good

A

Because it creates a vacuum between the two pairs of glass meaning heat can’t escape by conduction or convection and also air is a good insulator

32
Q

Does a warm substance transfer its heat to a cooler substance

A

Yes

33
Q

What happens to dye in water whilst the water is being heated up

A

The dye gets carried by the water and as the water is becoming less dense as it is heating up, it rises to the surface carrying the dye with it. Once the water at the surface cools down the particles loose kinetic energy so sink back down to the bottom carrying the dye with it
