Measurement Flashcards
What is random error, and how to reduce?
Measurements sometimes larger or smaller than true value. Reduced by taking average of repeated readings
What is systematic error, and how to reduce?
Measurement either always smaller or larger than true value. Cannot be reduced, can be eleiminated by checking instrument
What is accuracy?
Degree of agreement between result of measurement and true value. Measure of systematic error.
What is precision?
Degree of agreement of repeated measurements of the same quantity. Measure of random error.
If p = (2x+y)/3 , (2x-3y), what is actual uncertainty?
(2x+y) /3
To what sf or dp to leave calculated uncertainty?
1sf, and calculated quantity follow the no. of decimal places.
