Q

What is the function and location of the SEROUS MEMBRANE

A

The function of the serous membrane is the serous layers are separated by thin layer of serous fluid which is secreted by both membranes, the serous fluid allows organs such as the heart, stomach, etc to slide easily without friction.

The location of the serous membrane is it lines open body cavities that are closed to the exterior body surface in the thorax, the serous membranes isolates the lungs and heart from each other.

The structure of the serous membrane is composed of simple squamous epithelium, resting on a thin layer of areolar connective tissue.

Q

What is the function and location of the MUCOUS MEMBRANE

A

The function of the mucous membrane is it protects the body by creating a barrier and preventing the inside of the body from drying out. It also traps pathogens, dirt and small matter so that they can be sequestered and eliminated by the body.

The location of the mucous membrane is it lines all body cavities that open to the exterior body surface. It lines hollow organs of the respiratory and digestive tract, such as Nasal Cavity, Stomach, etc.

The structure of the mucous membrane is composed of stratified squamous epithelium (mouth) and simple columnar epithelium (rest of digestive tract).
