Memory- working memory model Flashcards
1
Q
What is the working memory model and what are its 4 main components?
A
A memory theory regarding the short-term memory.
Central executive, Phonological loop, Visuo-spacial sketchpad and Episodic buffer
2
Q
What is the role of the Central executive
A
An attentional processor that monitors incoming data, makes decisions and allocates slave systems to task
3
Q
What is the role of the visuo-spacial sketch pad?
A
stores visual and or spacial info eg, asked how many windows in your house and visualising
- Visual cache: stores visual data
- Inner scribe: recording the arrangement of objects in the visual field
4
Q
What is the role of the episodic buffer?
A
Temporarily holds information from the other slave systems
5
Q
Positive evaluation
A
- case study of damaged STM where verbal info wasn’t processed well but visual was suggesting they’re in different parts
- dual task performance: how hard it is too sing in your head and draw a flower
6
Q
Negative evaluation
A
- The central executive has very little explanation its very general
- most studies are brain damage which have low population validity
