Q

Osmotolarent

A

Can service salty conditions

Staphylococcus aureus is an example…we have salty skin it survives

Q

Fastidious

A

These are picky bacteria. They are hard to grow becuase they are picky about conditions. If not right they won’t grow.

Q

Obliged aerobes/areobes

A
  • Require oxygen
  • Mycobacterium tuberculosis (infect lungs)
  • Pseudomonas auregenosa (this is an opertuneistic bacteria)

Q

Facultative anaerobes

A
  • grow aerobic and anarobicly
  • Whichever allows more energy to be produced
  • often gut MO’s
  • E. coli,
  • Proteus sp.

Q

Aerotolerent anaerobes

A
  • only anarobicly matabalism
  • can service when oxygen is present

Q

Microareophiles

A

arobic growth but at lower levels of O2

normally requires increase CO2

found in stomach, vaginal areas, spinal column

16
Q

Generation time

A
  • You the time required for a cell to grow and divide into two.
  • The doubling time
17
Q

Lag phase of growth

A
  • Number of cells stays the same
  • intense metabolic activity
  • absorbing nutrients
  • replicating DNA
18
Q

Log phase of growth

A
  • Log growth or exponential growth of cells
  • Most active metabolically = most sensitive to drugs/antibiotics
19
Q

Stationary phase of growth

A
  • growth rate slows and some bacteria die
  • equal amount of growth and death
  • equilibrium
20
Q

Death phase of growth

A
  • number of deaths more than growth
  • bacteria are least susseptable to drugs now
