The manor system

A

The Manor System refers to a system of agricultural estates in the Middle Ages, owned by a Lord and run by serfs or peasants. The Lords provided safety and protection from outside threats and the serfs or peasants provided labor to run the manor.

A

Under the feudal system, a person held land directly from the king. This was often written as ‘tenant in capite’. Such a person was usually the owner of many manors, which he sublet to lords of minor owners.

A

At 7 they would become pages and serve the lords of their manor.
At 14 they would become squires, and be knights in training escorting knights into battle, arranging their death sendoffs, Taking care of their weapons and amour.
At 18-21 squires are eligible to become knights.
