Q

Describe the difference between a gram positive and a gram negative membrane

A

Gram positive- peptidoglycan huge layer at top over the cytoplasmic membrane. cytoplasmic membrane has some protein

Gram negative- outer membrane with a bunch of oligosacharides on top. underneath is a thin layer of petidoglycan, underneath is the cytoplasmic membrane

16
Q

What is the major antigenic determinant of gram negative bacteria?

A

Lipopolysacharide because it is not found in gram positive bacteria

17
Q

What does the S-layer do?

A

Found in most archea and it provides a permeable barrier

18
Q

What is the slime layer made up of?

A
Polysacharides
Dextran (a sugar of sucrose)
19
Q

How is the flagellar assembled

A

a cap is first made with a filament, then the rest of the tail

20
Q

How does the flagellum in gram negative bacterium move?

A

proton motive force

21
Q

Gram positive bacteria always have what kind of photosynthesis

A

Anoxygenic
