Segregation

1870-1969

  • starts in reconstruction of the south
  • troops in south making sure all is well
  • hayes vs tildon
  • hayes says he’ll remove troops if elected- wins
  • when troops are removed states get to choose voting rights, they make it hard for blacks
  • 1960s tries to fix it- civil rights act/ voting right
    - gives feds some control of voting
