  • Martha does show faith but not the right faith she does not expect Jesus to be able to raise Lazarus from the dead.

Healing of the blind man.

  • Ironic as the man cannot see but he recognises Jesus is the Messiah those that think they can see are religiously blind.
  • The man went to the religious leaders and told them about the mirical, and they wanted to know more but not for good reasons they wanted to kill Jesus as he had healed on the sabbath when he kneaded the mud for the eyes the man was not in danger as he has been blind for all his life.
  • kicked out of the synagogue for this shows that the early Christians would face persecution.
  • The leaders say that the man is blind due to sin, but Jesus implies that it is so that he can show the glory of God.
  • Son of man refers to Daniel 7 a man of gods power and authority.

  • It was a storm, and the men were scared. Storm represents chaos and Jesus can bring peace to be able to calm the storm.

  • There has been a great crowd that has followed Jesus because of the signs and the miracles that he has performed.
  • This links back to the manna at the exodus where they were only able to take one loaf but here, they can take what they want because Jesus will be able to will always be able to provide for the crowd.
  • The disciples lack faith as they say it will take a year’s wages to be able to feed the people, but they don’t understand that Jesus will always be able to provide.
  • There is a local boy that has bread and fish, and Jesus breaks it and gives it to the people.
  • The 12 baskets that are left represent the 12 tribes of Israel.
  • Shows that Jesus superseded Moses he is the new Moses.
  • The people ask shall we make him a king they do not understand that Jesus will die for them they see him as political not the Messiah.

Healing of the man at the pool

  • There is the breaking of the sabbath as Jesus must kneed the mud to put on the man’s eyes.
  • The man was not in direct danger he was not dying he had been ill a while 38 years this shows the significance of the miracle.

  • The leaders are focused on the law break and not the fact that the man is walking.

  • The man realised when he got home that at the time that Jesus said the boy would be well that he was well.

  • This was on the third day, and this is reference to the death and the resurrection. As Jesus will die and then rise on the third day.
  • Old wine is the old covenant, and the new wine is the new covenant.

  • This is the opposite of darkness and is a gift from God it makes the works of God luminous.
  • Reference to the start times there was light, and the light was always with God.

  • No one seized him as his hour had not yet come this is reference to the death and the resurrection Jesus oversees his own death and can choose to lay it down and then take it back up again.

  • The people ask for a sign before they believe it

  • -sheep listen to my voice the believers able to recognise Jesus’ voice, this leads to salvation as you have the believe which is the word that mark uses for having faith.
