  • one of the main premises was legislative power
  • bicameral system
  • could do lots of other legislative things (select state treasurer, etc.)

Convention of 1845

A

Jacksonian amendments returned power to the people (now judges and statewide officials elected by popular vote)

  • # of governments
  • type of local governments
  • initiatives (anyone can add) and referendums (anyone can remove)
  • -2/3 congressional districts, 8% for amendment, 5% for law
