A

Germanys oversea empire was taken away, some of them managed by the league of nations

Germany would pay 6.6 billion for reparations (France wasn’t happy), but this amount was later changed, they only ended up paying 20 mil

Forbade Germany to become allies with their former ally: Austria

German army limited to 100 000 men, no armoured vehicles, submarines or aircrafts, and only 6 battleships in navy and conscription banned

The Rhineland (bordered France and Germany) was demilitarised

League of nations to be an international police force, and Germany was not invited to join

The Saarland was run by the league of nations

Alsace Lorraine went back to France

Upper Silesian settlement, a peaceful vote about dividing a country

Bulgaria crisis- Greece invaded Bulgaria and the LoN told them to leave, and they did and paid money

A

Returned about 400 000 back to their homes and eliminated small pox and cholera and invented injections

Reduced slavery- went from 50% to 4% of slaves dying and freed 200 000 slaves

Blacklisted 4 companies of illegal drug trade

Improved working conditions- banned poisonous lead paint, limited hour of small children

Decreased drugs and prostitution

disarmament conference

A

1932, brings the prohibition of bombing civilian population, limiting size of artillery, size of tanks and chemical warfare. Did not bring disarmament, even though it was agreed in 1921 at the Washington conference, only Germany disarmed, this damaged reputation

Corfu crisis:

A

favoured Italy (the higher power) and didn’t make a fair judgment. ,1923 boundary between Greece and Albania had to be sorted out.
Italian team surveying the Greece side was ambushed and one was killed. Mussolini was furious and occupied the Greek island of Corfu, 15 died.
Greece asked the LoN for help and they condemned Mussolini, but France was on Italy’s side, so it got in the way

A

Poland invaded Vilna in Lithuania and took control in 1920

abyssinian crisis

A

In 1896, Italian troops tried to invade Abyssinia but failed. Mussolini wanted the mineral wealth and fertile soil so in 1934 they had a dispute, and he got his troops ready to invade. The emperor of Abyssinia asked the LoN for help. They were all worried about Hitler, Italy mostly worried of an Austria and German alliance since Italy is close. France and Britan didn’t help Abyssinia since they wanted Mussolini as an allie against Hitler. The Hoare Laval pact was the secret plan to give Mussolini most of Abyssinia in return for a truce. French desperate for support of Italy. In 1936, Mussolini had the capital. Then in 1936 Hitler and Mussolini signed the axis alliance.

1931- Japanese army controlled Manchurian railway in China, Chinese troops attacked, and Japan invaded and set up government. China asked LoN for help and they decided Manchuria to be returned to China, but Japan didn’t listen and left LoN
