how has changing the role of animals in society affected human/animal interactions
Historically, animals had more of a utilitarian purpose—herding, military, labour, protection—and our study of behaviour was limited to training these animals to fulfil this purpose. Today, domestic animals fill many roles—companion, helper, child, workmate—as well as the more traditional utilitarian roles. Our changing attitude towards our animals has shifted from that of servant to “pet” or family member.
describe how the changes in lifestyle have affected our pets behaviour
changing role and the change in their environment (rural to city-dwelling) has added many stresses to our animals’ lives which did not exist before
explain the importance how animals perceive their enviroment
changing environment changes the pets role, in turn can greatly affect behaviour
describe the context of a problem behaviour being part of package behaviour
a dog or cat displays behaviours as a package, each developed in association with other behaviours, rarely you can deal with a particular behaviour as a isolated event, there will always be other interactions which impact this behaviour
It is also important to understand that many animal behaviour challenges are __________behaviours which are only a problem in context with our lifestyle!
normal
behaviour problems into three classifications: ________________(misunderstanding of the rules or what we are asking), __________________ (an actual mental or psychological abnormality), and _________________(stemming from either an abnormal social system or environment or abnormal responses to a normal situation)
obedience, temperament, behaviour
