SOFTWARE
Where is all the computer software kept when not being used?
In storage.
What needs to happen for us to work with the computer’s software?
The software needs to be transferred from storage to memory so that the CPU can start following all of the instructions.
Software is categorized into two main groups, what are they?
Application Software and System Software
What is application software?
A group of programs that perform specific tasks for us.
Examples:
Word processing programs
Typing tutor software
Gaming software
What is System software?
This type of software is designed with the intent to control, support, or operate the computer.
Examples:
the operating system
Anti-virus software
Web browser
What is the The Operating system?
Boots your computer when it’s switched on.
What are some examples of The Operating system?
Windows – windows 8 and Windows 10
Apple’s macOS Sierra
Linux
What are the functions of an operating system?
- Managing all the hardware and software on the computer
- Maintaining security
- Providing a user interface
What is the The Interface?
The way the content of the screen is arranged and presented to us to use.
What is the desktop?
Where you get to personalize the computer by changing the background image and arranging shortcuts to your favorite apps and folders so that you can get them easily.
What are Utilities?
These are programs that are not specifically aimed at the core functioning of the operating system.
What are examples of Utilities?
Snipping tools.
