2
Q

3 steps to determining dipole moments

A
  1. identify polar bonds
  2. identify the dipole moments of the bonds
  3. determine if the bond dipole moments cancel one another out or not (for net dipole)

4
Q

why might the experimental ir spectra differ from the theoretical ir spectra

A

because theoretical spectra are done using one gas phase molecule so it is not skewed by any other solvent or impurities
