Define Momentum
Inertia in motion
Define Explosion
object start out together, and then move apart
Define Elastic Collision
objects start out together, and move apart after the collision (bounce off)
Impulse equals the…
change in momentum
After a bullet is fired, which has more momentum, the gun or the bullet?
Neither, they have the same momentum. Because the initial momentum is zero, the final momentum must be zero. If you add up equal and opposite momentum, they add up to zero.
A pool player, hits the cue ball into a red ball. This cue ball bounces off, and the red ball rolls into the pocket. What kind of event is this?
An elastic collision
A car that speeds up fro 30 to 40 mph gains more momentum than an identical car that speeds up from 10 to 20 mph. Ture or False? Explain.
False. They gain the same amount of momentum, because that have the same mass and both gain the same amount of velocity(+10ph).
Why does a seat belt save lives? Explain in terms of force, impulse and momentum.
A seat belt takes more time to stop the rider, so it uses less force than the windshield, so does less harm to the rider.
