Motion Flashcards
What is motion?
Any physical movement or change in position or place, relative to a reference point.
Displacement
The distance of a body’s change in position from a starting point.
Distance
How far an object has moved
Measured in meters, kilometres, (cm or mm)
Speed
The distance an object travels per unit of time (sec, hour, year, ect)
What is the equation for speed?
Distance / time
Constant speed
Means that the speed stays the same throughout the entire distance
What is the equation for average speed?
Total distance traveled / time taken
What is velocity?
Velocity is a measure of the speed of an object and the direction it is moving in space.
How can velocity change if your speed is remaining constant?
You just change your direction
What is the equation for velocity?
Distance / time
What is the equation for acceleration?
Change in velocity / change in time
(Vf) - (vi) /time
Acceleration
The rate of change of velocity
Positive acceleration
Speeding up
Negative acceleration
Slowing down
What is the equation for the change of velocity?
Final velocity (vf) - initial velocity (vi)
