Muscle chart Flashcards
Childhood muscle masss
- muscle mass accounts for 23- 25% of body weight.
- muscle growth predominately occurs through hypertrophy
- muscle cells grow in diameter and length due to lengthening sacromere
Childhood muscle fiber type
at birth 15% of muscle fibers are undifferentiated
- by 1 all fiber types are differentiated similar to adults
adolescent muscle mass
- gender difference becomes marked during and after adolescence
Muscle mass in boys increase rapidly till what age
17 ( 54% of body weight)
muscle mass in girls increase rapidly until what age ?
13 ( 34% of body weight)
Middle age adult muscle mass
small change in muscle mass during adult hhood
- 10 % of muscle mass is loss between 20 and 50
middle age adults muscle fibers
- number and diameter of fiber decrease
Muscle mass in Older adults
- After age 50 muscle mass is lost at a fast rate
- additional 30% of muscle mass is lost at age 80( 40% of muscle mass gone)
change in muscle fiber in older adult hood
muscle fibers will not decrease till age 70
childhood changes in muscular strength
- Strength increases steadily as children get older
- boys will be stronger than girls of the same height
boys and girls have similar strength levels until the age 13
child hood functional strength
functional strength increases faaster than muscle you would expect with muscle mass. due to neurological factors
adolscent muscular strength
boys spurt of increased strength comes at age 13
- Girls have steady strength increase until the plateu
