MUSCLES!! Flashcards

1
Q

Features of muscles

A

nervous control- nerve stimuli controls muscle action
contractility- muscles contract and become thicker
extensibility- muscles can strech when force is applied
elasticity- muscles can return to their orginal size once streched
atrophy- muscles can decrease in size due to lack in exercise, injury or disease
hypertrophy- muscles can grow in size, growth with increase in training

Q

Fusiform

A

run at muscle belly, mobility and produce contractions over large range but produce low force- biceps and sartorius

Q

pennate muscles

A

run at angles to the tendons, less mobility than the fusiform

Q

uni- pennate muscles

A

fibres are only found on one side of the central tendon, like semimembranosus in the hamstring

Q

multiple pennate

A

branch off from several tendons, this creates a strong force load, eg: deltoids

Q

radiate muslces

A

muscles that come out from the main tendon, producing strenth and mobility, like the chest muscle
