Muscles of Anterolateral Abdominal Wall Flashcards
Where does the external oblique insert?
Linea alba, pubic tubercles and anterior half of iliac crest
What is the origin of the external oblique?
External surfaces of 5th-12th ribs
What is the innervation of the external oblique?
Thoraco-abdominal nerves (anterior rami of T7-T11) and subcostal nerve
What action does the external oblique perform?
Compress and support abdominal viscera; flex and rotate trunk
What is the origin of the internal oblique?
Thoracolumbar fascia, anterior two thirds of iliac crest, and connective tissue of deep inguinal ligament
Where does the internal oblique insert?
Inferior borders of 10th-12th ribs, linea alba, and pubis via conjoint tendon
What is the innervation of the internal oblique?
Thoraco-abdominal nerve (anterior rami of T7-T11), subcostal and first lumbar nerve
What action does the internal oblique perform?
Compresses and supports the abdominal viscera; flex and rotate trunk
What is the origin of the transversus abdominis?
Internal surfaces of 7th-12th costal cartilages, thoracolumbar fascia, iliac crest, and connective tissue deep to inguinal ligament
Where does the transversus abdominis insert?
Linea alba with aponeurosis of internal oblique, pubic crest, and pubis via conjoint tendon
What is the innervation of the transversus abdominis?
Thoraco-abdominal nerves (anterior rami of T7-T11), subcostal and first lumbar nerve
What action does the transversus abdominis perform?
Compress and supports abdominal viscera
What is the origin of the rectus abdominis?
Pubis symphysis and pubic crest
Where does the rectus abdominis insert?
Xiphoid process and 5th-7th costalcartilages
What is the innervation of the rectus abdominis?
Thoraco-abdominal and subcostal nerves (anterior rami of T7-T12 spinal nerves)
