Methanoic acid

A

Methanoic acid HcooH is formed naturally in ant especially fire ant and as well in stringing nettles. The ant bite their prey to immobile them. We can also get bitten by an ant. Methanoic acid is a weak acid and a powerful skin agent. A household remedy for an ants bite is to bab the bite with dilute solution of ammonia ( with is a weak base).

What is Vinegar?

A

Vinegar is make by fermenting plant materials. During the fermentation ethanoic acid HC3cooH a weak acid produced. This give vinegar it sharp taste. Vinegar is used persevere types of food because the lower ph level prevent it from bacterial growth.

What is Lime juice ?

A

Lime juice contains organic acid such as critic acid. A household use of lime juice is to remove rust stain from clothes.the stain are soaked in juice.the acid react with the iron oxide to form colour less compounds that can be remove by washing, because lime juice is only a weak acid it does not burn through clothes.

Lactic acid

A

Lactic acid is present in milk. Also build up our muscles under extreme excising. Our muscles use oxygen for respiration. When we exercise very energetically, oxygen cannot get to muscles fast enough. The adsence of oxygen, repair anaerobically ( respiration in the absence of oxygen). Our muscles cell keep working for a while. ( under these conditions lactic acid is produced in the muscles. To much lactic acid in the muscle produces cramp. When we stop excising the lactic acid can be converted to glucose in the liver.

Vitamin C

A

Vitamin C is absorbi acid it essential for some chemical reactions in cells. Its an antioxidant it is essential for the healing of wounds and promotion healthy connective tissue in the body. Citrus fruits such as lime, orange, lemon and raw vegetables are good sucrose of vitamin C.

Vitamin C is easily destroyed by oxidation. This oxidation is increase and heated. exposure air and alkaline conditions. So cooking vegetables above ph 7 reduce the amount of vitamin C drastically. Some people uses sodium hydroxide when cooking them. This improves the texture and appearance. Sodium hydro carbonates is slightly alkaline.

A
  1. Pipette a known of volume of fruit juice into a flask.
  2. Add 1% DCPIP solution from a burette, drop by drop to the solution in the flask and shake the flask gently.
  3. The end point is reached when the blue colour of the DCPIP does not fade when it has been added to the solution.
