Natural Systems Flashcards
What are Earth’s 5 main systems?
Atmosphere, Lithosphere, Hydrosphere, Biosphere, cryosphere
What does the hydrosphere deal with?
Water.
What does the biosphere deal with?
-Plants
-Animals
What is a cascading system?
Where the energy and matter from one system influence other systems.
What are the two types of systems?
-Open system
-Closed system
What is a closed system?
A system that transfers energy, but not matter.
What is an open system?
A system that transfers both matter and energy.
What is an example of an open system?
The water cycle.
What is the definition of Elements?
Things that make up the system.
What is the definition of flows/ transfers?
A link between one store or component and another, along which something moves.
What is the definition of a system boundary?
The edge of the system; the interface between one system and another.
What is the definition of relationships?
Descriptions of how the various elements work together to carry out some sort of process.
What is the definition of stores/ components?
A part of the system where something is held for a period of time.
What is the definition of attributes?
The characteristics of the elements.
What is the definition of an input?
A point where something is added to the system.
