Nerves of forelimb Flashcards

Q

What are the different types of neurons?

A

1) Primary afferent 2) Final efferent (lower motor neurons) 3) Interneurons (excitatory or inhibitory) 4) Projection (axons longer than interneurons, when it’s descending it’s an upper motor neuron)

Q

What are the properties of the functional classifications of peripheral neurons?

A

1) GSE is multipolar, goes to main skeletal body mass and has a single neuron from CNS to muscle fibres 2) GVE is multipolar, goes to cardiac, smooth muscle, glands; 2 neuron chain from CNS to organs 3) GSA is pseudounipolar and carries sensory info from body systems to the CNS, cell bodies in the sensory ganglia 4) GVA is pseudounipolar that carries sensory info from visceral body systems; cell bodies in the sensory ganglia 5) SSA is bipolar and carries vision and auditory 6) SVA is bipolar and pseudounipolar and carries smell and taste

Q

What’s the basic makeup of all spinal nerves?

A

Dorsal and ventral roots come together to form a spinal nerve, which becomes mixed nerves (motor and sensory) with dorsal and ventral branches, along with a communicating branch (ramus communicans)

Q

What spinal nerves go to the epaxial and hypaxial regions?

A

Dorsal branches go to the epaxial side and 1/3 dorsal cutaneous innervation; ventral branches go to the hypaxial side and 2/3 ventral cutaneous innervation

Q

What is the organisation of all nerves besides C1?

A

All go through the intervertebral foramen whereas C1 goes through the lateral vertebral foramen

Q

What is the ANS composed of?

A

Sympathetic (T1-L5) which is from thoracolumbar-4Fs, and parasympathetic from craniosacral-rest and digest
