Define a LAN
Local Area Networks: It covers a small area consisting of computers and peripheral devices connected together, often on a single site. Example School Buildings
Define a WAN
Wide Area Network: The internet is the largest Wide Area Network in the world. A WAN is a collection of computers and networks connected together using resources supplied by a “third party carrier” such as British Telecom.
What information does a packet contain?
A packet contains: The IP address it is going to The IP address it came from The sequence number of the packet The number of packets in the whole communicaton Error checking data

What does DNS stand for and what does it do?
Domain Name System: When you type a domain name into a browser the web page request is to Domain Name System server on the internet. The DNS server has a database of domain names and IP addresses and translate the domain name into an IP address.

The purpose of the MAC address is to provide a unique hardware address or physical address for local area networks.

Sharing software between users
Disadvantages:
Network cabling and file servers can be expensive
Viruses can be spread to other computers
Risk of hackers stealing information
Define Router
A device that forwards packets through networks
