Q

describe a digital subtraction angiography

A
  • native x-ray is taken followed by conventional angiograph
  • the angiograph is digitally subtracted from the native x-ray, yielding a dark image of the vessels with attenuation of dense structures

Q

descibe what a FLAIR image is

A
  • FLAIR is a specialized T2 variant that may better reveal lesions from multiple sclerosis than a standard T2-weighted scan since it darkens the CSF

Q

contrast T1 vs T2 MRI

A
  • T1
    • differentiates gray-white and shows structure in detail (CSF is dark)
    • infarctions are visible
  • T2
    • CSF is white
    • weak differentiation of white and gray
    • shows edema and hence neuropathology

Q

describe PET (positron emission tomography)

A
  • evaluation of the distribution of radioactive isotopes by a computational method (like CT, MRI) to show metabolism (e.g. glucose) in the brain

Q

describe single photon emission computerized tomography (SPECT)

A
  • evaluation of the distribution of radioactive isotopes by a computation method (like CT, MRI) to show perfusion in the brain
