Neutralisation Flashcards
1
Q
List 3 Acids for me!
A
Hydrochloric acid : HCL
Sulphoric Acid: H₂SO₄
Nitric Acid: HNO₃
2
Q
What pattern about acids do you spot above!
A
All acids contain Hydrogen ions (H+ ions)
3
Q
What are Acids?
A
- PH less than 7
- Strong acids carefully ionised in water, weak acids do not ionised much in water
- More H+ ions = stronger the acids
4
Q
What is Alkalis?
A
- Release hydroxide ions (OH-)
- PH more than 7
- Strong alkalis fully ionised in water, and weak alkalis don’t ionised much in water
5
Q
Neutralization Equations
A
Acid + Alkali = Salt + Water
H+ + OH- = H₂O
6
Q
Example of Neutralisation reaction.
A
Sulfuric acid + Potassium hydroxide = potassium sulfate + water
7
Q
What does PH stands for!
A
Power of Hydrogen
8
Q
Memorize this! (1)
A
Lower the PH = stronger acid
9
Q
Recall (1)
A
Lower PH = Stronger acid.
10
Q
PH of solution is determined by what?
A
PH of solution is determined by concentration of H+ ions within the solution
