Q

Inertia

A

An objects resistance to change its current state of motion

- more mass something has the more inertia it will have

Q

What is force?

A

A push or pull
- when an unbalanced force is applied an object will accelerate, decelerate, and/or change direction
This means the force was strong enough to overcome the objects inertia
- on earth Gravity is a force acting on all objects at all times keeping them on the surface
The ground pushing back up on you is called a support force

Q

Mass

A

How much “stuff” something is made of
It is measured in grams…. We will use Kg which is 1000 grams
- is not related to gravity

Q

Friction

A
The force that resists an objects motion
•air resistance(drag)
•water resistance(viscous friction)
•friction can also occur with the ground or between two objects running together
    -friction generates heat

Q

Newton

A

The force necessary to give a 1kg mass an acceleration of 1m/s^2

1N = 1kg x 1 m/S^2

Q

Directly proportional

A

1 magnitude increases So does the other

Force and acceleration are directly proportional…if the force doubles the the acceleration will double

Q

1st law

A

An object at rest stays at rest

  • this means objects remain motionless or keep moving in a straight line unless acted on by a force
  • objects will not accelerate, decelerate, or change direction unless an unablanced force acts on it

Q

Inversely proportional

A

When 1 magnitude increases the other decreases

Mass and acceleration are inversely proportional…. If the mad doubles then the acceleration will be cut in half… If the mass is cut in half the acceleration will double

Q

Weight

A

Wheat is measured of gravitational force between two options

  • the weight does not Chang when the amount is moved from earth to the moon
  • weight is commonly measured in newtons or pounds
