Q

What do energy requirements depend on

A

Activity levels- The more active a person is the more energy they need, so the more food they need
Age-children and teenagers need more energy than older people so more consumption of food is needed
Pregnancy- Pregnant women need more energy and therefore more food than other women for their baby to develop

Q

What is the eating system

A

Ingestion- eating food
Digestion- is the break down of large insoluble molecules into small soluble molecules
Absorbtion-When the small soluble molecules move from the small intestine into the blood
Assimilation-When the small molecules move into cells and become part of them or are used up
Egestion-Passing out undigested food as faeces through the anus
Peristalsis- is when food is squashed through the gut by circular muscles which contract in wave

Q

What is lipase

A

Made in the pancreas and released into the small intestine its substrate is lipid and proudct is glycerol and fatty acids

17
Q

What is the adaption of the Ileum for adaption

A

-It has very long villi to increase surface area
-It has many capillaries and a rich blood supply to increase the concentration gradient
-the walls of the small intestine are only one cell thick for a short diffusion path
-it contains lacteals for lipid absorption

18
Q

What is the adaption of the villus for absorption

A

-it has many microvilli which increases the surface area
-it has many capillaries and a rich blood supply to increase concentration gradient
-only one cell thick for a short diffusion pathway

19
Q

What is the adaptions of the epithelial cells for absorption

A

Have microvilli increases surface area
many mitochondria for more respiration for more energy for more active transport
