What does the Office of the State Auditor do?
Through independent audits, gives Legislature assurance that funds appropriated are properly spent, State assets safeguarded, management is complying with applicable laws and regulations, State’s financial statements are fairly presented

NJ Constitution - Article 7
How is the State Auditor appointed?
Appointed through a joint session by members of the Legislature for a 5 year term, typically by a voice vote
Where is the Office of the State Auditor located?
Only OLS office not in the Annex. Located at 125 South Warren Street
What does the Office of Public Information do?
- Telephone hotline
- legislative calendar
- maintains bill tracking database
- bill status drafting
- bill room
- session day off
- ceremonial resolution unit
-hearing reporters - publications, exhibits, videos, newspaper clipping service
- in-house library
- legislative commissions database
- tours
- manages website, bill tracking, hearing unit,
- Serves as OLS Records Custodian for Open Public Records Act (OPRA)
- receiving agent of annual reports & executive documents for members

What are the two OLS principles and why are they important?
- Non-partisan
- Confidentiality
It is important because we want members to be able to trust the OLS staff and ask questions

What is OLS?
The legislative staff support agency established by the Legislative Services Commission that provides legal, fiscal, research, bill drafting, and administrative services, committee services, computer database management, & public information programs and publications.
What is the Legislative Service Commission?
16 Member Bipartisan commission (composed of members from both the GA and Senate)
As non-partisan employees of the Legislature what are activities that are generally prohibited?
- Attend Rallies
- Have Political Bumper Stickers
- Put up political yard signs
- Make political posts on social media
- Comment on news topics that can be viewed in a partisan/ political light
- Can’t Run for Office
- Can’t Run for School Board
As non-partisan employees of the Legislature what are activities that are generally permitted?
- Vote
- Donate Money to Political Campaigns
- Be associated with a Political Party (i.e. register to vote as a Democrat or Republican)
These seem a bit contradictory because the Rule was created before this information was easily accessible
