Operant Conditioning Flashcards
What is OC/Instrumental conditioning?
Animal learning that it’s behaviour has C
What is the formula that shows the process of OC?
Sd –> R –> S
Discriminative S A
Respones B
Stimulus C
What is Thorndikes law of effect?
If a C is pleasent the preceeding B becomes more likely. If a C is unpleasant the preceding B becomes less likely.
What are the 4 quadrants?
R+ good C added increases responding
R- Bas C removed to increase responding
P+ Bad C added to decrease responding
P- Good C removed to decrease responding
Which 2 quadrants does PR say are good from the dogs pov
R+ R- because responding increases
Which 2 quadrants are bad from a dogs pov?
P+ P- Both decrease responding
Which 2 quadrants does PR say are good from the T pov
R+ P+ “use of positive” stimuli
Which 2 quadrants are bad from a T pov
R- P- both use “negative” S
Why is it not lucrative to ask if CC or OC is in operation in the real world?
Both play a critical role
When CC and OC are at odds which will “win” and why?
CC - Brellands misbehaviour of organisms when associative learning triggered feeding behaviour directed towards the CS which prevented the animal from completing the operant contingency
Why is it important to understand CC if you only use operant contingencies?
CC is always in effect, arrange contingencies and T set up’s so the C contingencies won’t interfere with your goal
