Hair, Skin, and Nails
Forms the external body covering.
Protects deeper tissues from injury.
Synthesizes Vitamin D (bone development).
Site of cutaneous nerve receptors (pressure and pain), sweat and oil glands.
Skeletal System
All soft tissue is built from this
Supports and protects body organs.
Provides a structural framework for muscle attachments.
Blood cells are formed within bones.
Serves as storage for minerals.
Muscular System
Movement with bones
Locomotion – interaction with the environment
Posture maintenance
Facial expression
Heat production
Nervous System
A fast-acting control system
Allows complex interactions with both the internal and external environments.
Mechanism: activating muscles and glands

Breaks down food into
absorbable units.
Eliminates indigestible materials.

Endocrine glands secrete hormones that regulate:
growth
reproduction
nutrient use
