Organ Systems Flashcards
Name all 11 organ systems
Integumentary, skeletal, digestive, lymphatic, nervous, endocrine, muscular, cardiovascular, respiratory, female & male reproductive, urinary
Integumentary system (nails, skin, hair)
External body covering as protection
Skeletal system (joint, cartilages, bones)
Protects and supports organs and framework for muscles use to cause movement
Muscular system (skeletal muscle)
Allows movement
Cardiovascular system (blood vessels, heart)
Blood vessels transport blood (carries oxygen, nutrients, wastes, etc)
Endocrine system (ovary for females, glands, testis for males)
Glands secrete hormones
Nervous system (nerves, spinal cord, sensory receptor, brain)
Responds to internal and external changes
Lymphatic system
Picks up leaked fluid from blood vessels and returns it to blood, houses white blood cells
Respiratory system (nasal cavity, lungs, bronchial, etc)
Gas exchange occurs, and keeps blood supplied with oxygen and removes carbon dioxide
Digestive system (intestine, rectum, stomach, esophagus, oral cavity)
Breaks down food and absorbs nutrients
Urinary system (kidney, urinary bladder)
Eliminates nitrogen containing waste
Reproductive system
Produces offspring
