Organelles Flashcards
Cell Membrane
forms external boundary of cell, seperates from neighboyring cells
Cytoplasm
jelly-like material, fills inside of cell
Nucleus
largest organelle, contains DNA
Nuclear Membrane
seperates nucleus from cytoplasm
Nuclear Pores
allows large molecules in and out of the cell
Ribosomes
join amino acids to create protein
Endoplasmic Reticulum
provides surface for chemical reactions, channels to store and transport molecules
Golgi Body
modify and package proteins to secrete from cell. Rib-Endo-Golgi
Lysosomes
contain digestive enzymes, break down large molecules and digest worn-out organelles
Mitochondria
produce energy for the cells activities through respiration
Cilia/Flagella
hair-like, beat back and forth to move the cell or material across the cell membrane
Cytoskeleton
framework of protein fibres, hold the cells shape, assist with movement
Centrioles
involved in the reproduction of the cell
Nucleolus
contain RNA, within nucleus, helps manufacture proteins
Vesicles
small bubbles of liquid protein, formed on edges of golgi body
