Organs, Tissues Etc Flashcards
What is equilibrium?
An equal and balanced amount of something
Eg when all of the particles are diffused equally around a room or in water
What does an increase in temperature mean for diffusion?
An increase in temperature means the particles in a gas or liquid move more quickly because they gain more kinetic energy and vibrate. Diffusion takes place more rapidly as the random movement of the particles speeds up as they vibrate with more energy.
How does a greater difference in concentration effect the rate of diffusion?
The greater difference in concentration, the faster the rate of diffusion. Many particles will move randomly towards the area of low concentration. This difference between test areas of concentration is called the concentration gradient. Diffusion occurs down a concentration gradient.
What is diffused in and out of the lungs?
Oxygen into
Carbon dioxide out of
During gas exchange
Grow are the lungs adapted for gad exchange?
The walls are only one cell thick so gases do not have far to diffuse
The lining is moist so oxygen dissolves quickly
The alveoli covers a large surface area which allows gas exchange to occur.
What is diffused into the small intestine?
Nutrients such as glucose, amino acids, vitamins, protein, lipids, minerals.
How is the small intestine adapted for diffusion?
Thin
Large surface area for absorption
Villi contain blood capillaries which help carry absorbed food molecules.
What is diffused in and out of a leaf?
Carbon dioxide in
Oxygen out
Water vapour
How is a leaf adapted for diffusion?
The concentration is lower in the leaf so the carbon dioxide is diffused into cell, and the opposite happens for oxygen.
They have a large spongy surface area.
Guard cell with stomata opens and closes.
What is diffused in the placenta?
Carbon dioxide and waste out
Oxygen glucose nutrients in
How is the placenta adapted for diffusion? A
Placenta with villi, thin walls and good blood supply and large surface area
What is diffusion?
The random movement of particles from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration until equilibrium is achieved.
What is the order of size of things in the body, increasing in size?
Cells … Tissues … Organs …organ systems … Whole body
Name all the organ systems?
Digestive Reproductive Respiratory Nervous system Circulatory system Endocrine
What is a tissue?
A tissue is a group of cells with similar structure and function working together. They are a group of cells all the same type doing the same job.
