Femoroacetabular joint

  • Type- synovial
  • Closed packed- full extension, some internal rotation, and abduction
  • Capsular pattern- internal rotation and abduction > flexion and extension

  • Capsular pattern- NA

  • Attachment- anterior inferior iliac spine to intertrochanteric line of femur
  • Function- Limit hip extension

  • Attachment- posterior inferior acetabulum to apex of greater tubercle
  • Function- limit IR, ER, and EXT

  • Attachment- Obturator crest of pubic bone to blend with capsule of hip and iliofemoral ligament
  • Function- limit hip hyperabduction

  • Attachment- morgin of acetabular notch and transverse acetabular ligament to head of femur 
  • Function- carry blood supply to head of femur
