Team vs. Individual Functional Testing

- When team testing is involved physical therapists and assistants are usually involved in the testing of functional mobility skills (FMS). This includes bed mobility, transfers, ambulation, w/c negotiation, stair negotiation.
- There is often overlap in what different professions can test.
Therapist observes the patient during the performance of an activity

- Functional Reach Test
- Get Up & Go Test
- Timed Get Up & Go Test
- Physical Performance Battery
Limitation of Performance-Based Tests
They often don’t measure the task as it might be performed in the “real” world.
Self-Report Testing
Interviewing method
Accuracy is dependent on clear words without language bias, concise directions and accurate reporting of answers.
Descriptive Terminology Used in Functional Testing

- Contact guarding
- Minimum Assistance
- Moderate Assistance
- Maxiumum Assistance
Patient is able consistently to perform skill safety with no one present
