P5 Flashcards
what is a vector quantity and examples?
-Vector quantity have a magnitude and direction
-Examples: force,velocity,displacement ,acceleration and momentum
what is a scalar quantity and examples?
-Scalar quantity have magnitude only
-Examples: speed,distance,mass temperature and time
How are vectors represented?
-Vectors are represented by an arrow -length of the arrow shows the magnitude and the direction of the arrow shows the direction of the quantity
what is a force?
what are two types of forces?
-A force is a push or pull on an object that is caused by it interacting with something
-They are either non-contact or contact
-Contact=when two objects have to touching for a force to act eg friction air resistance, tension in ropes ect
-Non-contact if the object do not need to be touching for the force to act eg magnetic force, gravitational force and electrostatic force
what is the interaction between two pairs of objects?
-When two objects interact there is a force produced on both objects
-Interaction pair is a pair of forces that are equal and opposite and act on two interacting objects
