Q

Why will a decrease in volume give an increase in pressure?

A

Gas particles have some mass, so when they collide, they exert a force. In a sealed container, gas particles smash against the containers walls- creating an outward pressure. So with less volume, the particles will collide against the wall more frequently thus increasing the pressure.
