Levodopa, the dopamine precursor, is converted into dopamine by aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase Carbidopa is an inhibitor of DDC and does not cross the blood-brainbarrier, thus preferentially inhibiting the conversion of levodopa to dopamine outside of the brain.
