Peparing Salts Flashcards

1
Q

Preparing salts by precipitation

A

This is how you can make a in solute salt for example lead chlorine

1.Identity the ions present in the salts : lead and chlorine

2.Identity two soluble salts containing three ions ; lead nitrate and sodium chlorine

3.Add one of the solution to the other

4.Filter off the precipitate and then wash the precipitate with distilled water and dry it.

Q

Preparing salts by direction combination.

A

We can react with two element to from a salts. To do this we usually react a metal with a non metal element. For example we can prepare sodium chloride by burning sodium in chloride gas.

Q

Preparing salts and replacing hydrogen

A

To add metal or metal oxide in Add a breaker. The metal or metal oxide to be excess.

Warm the flask gently to make sure the reaction is completely.

Filter of the excess metal or metal oxide. Filtrate is a solution of salt.

Evaporate the water from the filtrate until crystallization point is reached. ( crystal start forming on the side of the evaporation bash.

Filter off the crystal and wash them carefully with minimum amount of water.

Dry the crystal between sheet of filter paper.

Q

What are neutralization reactions steps?

A

1.The indicator is blue- purple at the start ( high ph )

  1. As the acid is added the indicator colour change to blue, then to blue green ( ph is decreasing in the alkaline regions.
  2. When the acid has completely neutralized the alkali the indicator.
  3. When the acid is in excess, the indicator change from yellow and as more and more acid added it turns red ( ph is below 7 and decreasing further).
