what is psychodynamic paradigm?
It is based on motive forces Based on frauds structure of personality: -The Id (pleasure principle) -The ego (reality) -The superego (morality)
Personality development
- oral stage (id)
- anal stage 3m-3y (ego)
- phallic stage 3y-6-y (superego)
If the development of these phases were disrupted they build defense mechanisms
What is a Trait Paradigm?
Based on descriptions that characterize a person
Based on the five-factor model (“Big 5”)
Issues with the MBTI?
- Reliability
- Criterion - related validity
Dont predict work related outcomes - Construct validity
Lack of comprehensiveness - Categorization or traits
How does Personality affect work-related outcomes?
Extraversion and agreeableness
- good predictors of team-based work performance
- good predictors of a leadership style that leads to increased commitment
Openness to Experience
- good predictor of creative achievement
