Tell me About yourself

A

Hello, I’m Emily Rigole. In my current role as a Product Owner and Software Engineer Lead at XDS, I focus on our player-facing casino lobby – a dynamic ecosystem that caters to the diverse needs of both our clients, the casino operators, and the players. It’s an intricate balance, as their requirements don’t always align.

My day-to-day involves collaborating in standups with design, business, and marketing teams. We exchange progress updates, and our ongoing project centers around a lobby redesign. This initiative is driven by competitor analysis and market trends to ensure we remain competitive and maintain a modern, sleek appearance. At the onset of each phase, we establish clear goals, leveraging client feedback from previous phases to refine and adjust our objectives.

As the Software Lead on this project, I serve as the sole engineer, responsible for articulating all engineering requirements. I create the PRD and manage progress tracking in Jira. While in the past, I’ve translated these needs to a team of engineers, my current role involves wearing multiple hats in our small company. This experience has honed my ability to perceive a product from various perspectives, anticipating and translating the diverse needs of all stakeholders involved.

This multifaceted exposure has cultivated my growing interest in product management, prompting a desire to transition into a full-time product role within an industry that captivates me. That’s what drew me to your company – an exciting opportunity that aligns perfectly with my aspirations

Metrics

A
17
Q

Describe your experience with building and managing product roadmaps in a SaaS environment.

A

As Senior Product Owner at XDS, I led the creation and execution of a 6-month roadmap for the Games Lobby’s Tournaments feature. This involved aligning with market research, business needs, and stakeholders to define features, user flows, and functionalities. Using agile methodologies, I broke the roadmap into sprints, managed the backlog, and tracked progress towards specific objectives and key results (OKRs).

18
Q

How do you gather customer feedback and translate it into actionable product improvements?

A

A: During the Games Lobby project, I actively gathered feedback through:

User testing: Conducted usability sessions with target audiences to identify pain points and areas for improvement.
Data analysis: Tracked key metrics like login time, game engagement, and churn rate to understand user behavior.
Customer support tickets: Analyzed support tickets to identify recurring issues and user frustrations.
Based on this feedback, I:

Prioritized bug fixes: Addressed critical bugs impacting login and navigation based on user testing and support tickets.
Improved game discovery: Streamlined browsing and search based on user testing insights.
Implemented progressive onboarding: Enhanced new user experience with a step-by-step tutorial based on data analysis.

19
Q

Tell me about a time you had to prioritize competing product ideas. How did you approach it?

A

When planning the Tournaments feature, several exciting ideas emerged, like social leaderboards and bonus incentives. I used a data-driven approach:

Estimated potential reach: Analyzed engagement data for similar features in competitor products to gauge user interest.
Assessed development effort: Consulted with engineers to estimate development time and resource allocation for each idea.
Aligned with business goals: Evaluated how each idea contributed to key objectives like increased player retention and revenue growth.
Based on this analysis, I presented proposals to stakeholders, prioritizing features with the highest potential impact and feasibility.

20
Q

Describe your experience using data and metrics to measure product performance.

A

I tracked various metrics in the Games Lobby project, including:

Daily Active Users (DAU): Monitored overall engagement and platform health.
Average Revenue Per User (ARPU): Analyzed the impact of new features on user spending.
Tournament participation rate: Evaluated the success of the Tournaments feature.
Net Promoter Score (NPS): Gathered user feedback on overall satisfaction with the lobby.
By analyzing these metrics, I identified areas for improvement and demonstrated the impact of product changes on key business goals.

21
Q

Why are you passionate about working in the hospitality industry and specifically at Avero?

A

While my direct experience is in gaming, I’m fascinated by the service-oriented nature of the hospitality industry. Avero’s mission to empower hospitality professionals resonates with my desire to improve user experiences and contribute to their success. I believe my product management, design, and data analysis skills can significantly benefit your team.

22
Q

Can you elaborate on your understanding of agile methodologies and how you’ve applied them in your previous roles?

A

Agile methodologies are core to my product management approach. In my recent role at XDS, I led the Games Lobby project using iterative sprints within a 6-month roadmap. This involved user testing, incorporating feedback, and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams – engineers, designers, and marketers – to continuously improve and adapt to changing needs. Similarly, during the SOAP to REST migration, I broke down the process into manageable sprints, ensuring flexibility and responsiveness to emerging challenges.

23
Q

Describe your experience working with cross-functional teams, including engineers, designers, and marketers.

A

Collaboration is key to successful product development. At XDS, I fostered strong relationships with all team members. In the Games Lobby project, I partnered with designers to create user-friendly interfaces, with engineers to ensure technical feasibility, and with marketers to develop a winning go-to-market strategy. I believe in clear communication, shared ownership, and leveraging each team’s expertise to achieve optimal results.

24
Q

How do you stay up-to-date on the latest trends and technologies in the hospitality industry?

A
25
Q

What are your salary expectations for this position?

A
26
Q

Do you have any questions for me about the role or Avero?

A

Yes, I do! I’m particularly interested in learning more about Avero’s specific product roadmap and how this role would contribute to achieving your overall vision. Additionally, I’d like to understand your company culture and how you foster collaboration and innovation within your product teams.
