photosynthesis and respiration Flashcards
(9 cards)
factors affecting photosynthesis
light intensity, CO2 conc and temperature
how does light intensity affect rate of photosynthesis
chlorophyll use light energy for photosynthesis, which can only be done as quickly as this energy is provided
increased LI: increases ROP until a certain point, after that CO2 or temp is limiting factor
how does CO2 conc affect rate of photosynthesis
as CO2 increases, so does rate of photosynthesis.
at a certain conc, rate will stop increasing as temp or light are the limiting factors
how does temperature affect rate of photosynthesis
as temp increases, so does rate of photosynthesis, because the particles have more kinetic energy, making more frequent successful collisions between the enzyme and substrate. however past around 45 degrees, the enzyme’s active sites denature, so the substrate is no longer complimentary, so the rate rapidly decreases.
aerobic respiration word equation
glucose + oxygen = CO2 + water (+ energy)
- reverse of photosynthesis
- lots of oxygen available
- most efficient way to transfer energy from glucose
aerobic respiration symbol equation
C6H12O6 + 6O2 = 6CO2 + 6H2O
anaerobic respiration word equation
- releases much less energy
photosynthesis symbol equation
6CO2 + 6H2O = C6H12O6 + 6O2
respiration
process of transferring energy from glucose
from ADP to ATP
