Phys Hormones Flashcards
Name the hypothalamus proteins and opeptides
- TRH
- CRH
- GnRH
- somatostatin
- GHRH
What is TRH?
- thyrotropin releasing hormone
- stimulates secretion of TSH and prolactin
What is CRH?
- croticotropin releasing hormone
- stimulates secretion of ACTH
What is GnRH?
- gonadotropin releasing hormone
- stimulates LH and FSH
What is somatostatin?
-inhibits secretion of growth hormones
What is GHRH?
- growth hormone releasing hormone
- stimulates secretion of growth hormone
What are the anterior pituitary protein and peptides?
- TSH
- FSH
- LH
- Growth hormone
- Prolactin
- ACTH
What is TSH?
Thyroid stimulating hormone
-stimulates synthesis and secretion of thyroid hormones
What is FSH?
- follicle-stimulating hormone
- stimulates sperm maturation in sertoli cells
- stimulates follicular development and estrogen
What is LH?
Luteinizing hormone
- stimulates testosterone synthesis in Leydig cells
- stimulates ovulation, formation of corpus luteum, estrogen and progesterone synthesis
What is growth hormone?
Stimulates protein synthesis and overall growth
What is prolactin?
Stimulates milk production and secretion
What is ACTH?
Adrenocorticotropic hormone
-stimulates synthesis and secretion of adrenal cortical hormones (cortisol, androgens, aldosterone)
What are the posterior pituitary proteins and peptides?
Oxytocin and vasopressin/ADH
What is oxytocin?
Stimulates milk ejection and uterine contractions
What is vasopressin?
Stimulates water reabsorption in conducting ducts and constriction of arterioles
