Physical And Chemical Changes Flashcards
What is a physical change?
A process that transforms a substance’s physical form or shape.
What is a chemical change?
An irreversible change that occurs when 2 or more substances experience a chemical reaction.
Give three examples of a physical change.
Melting butter, freezing water, water evaporating.
What are the characteristics of a chemical change?
Colour change, production of gas (bubbles), temperature change, precipitate
Give examples of a colour change.
Dyeing hair, bruised leg changing colour, apple changing colour.
What is a physical change?
A physical change is a process that changes the physical shape or form of a substance.
How do you tell of something is a physical change?
No new substance has been formed and the change is reversible.
What is a chemical equation?
A chemical equation shows the reactants and products, and how many of each.
Give an example of a balanced chemical equation.
Mg+HCl = MgCl + H
Give an example of a worded equation.
Magnesium + Hydrochloric Acid = Magnesium + Hydrochloride
Give a more complex chemical equation.
C6H12O6 + 6O2 = 6H2O + 6CO2
