what does using your sensing during a physical exam mean?
use sight to look at appearence, structures, behaviour, mobility, posture, general body condition, temperment, use touch to feel lumps and bumps, scabs, body condition, lymph. nodes, deformaties, use hearing- tapping to produce vibration over body cavity, auscultation for sounds of body.
describe normal vitals for both cats and dogs

identify components of stethoscope
Use of stethoscope: diaphragm (flat part of chest piece covered with membrane) for high-pitched (heart, lung, bowel), bell (other side, not covered with membrane) for low-pitched sounds (third and fourth heart sounds)

Name, Species, Age, Colour/markings, Vaccination status, Breed, Sex, which includes the reproduction status
geography
Have they recently travelled and, if so, to where?, Have they been kennelled recently?, Have they had any contact with other animals and, if so, were any of these other animals ill?
do not use your _____ for a pulse as this can give innacurate results

pliable skin, twist disappears immediately and tent persists up to 2 seconds, bright slightly sunken eyes, moist and warm mouth
moderate dehydration 6-9%
leathery, twist disapears and tent persists for 3 seconds or more, duller than normal eyes, obviously sunken, sticky to dry mouth
severe dehydration 10%
absolutely no pliability, twist, tent persists indefinitely, cornea deeply sunken 2-4mm , dry. may be cyanotic colour warm to cold
