Physics Flashcards
What are the standard units
Metres, Seconds, kilograms, temperature, amps, coulombs
Give examples of a scalar quantity
Distance, speed, time, mass, energy
Give examples of a vector quantity
Displacement, weight, velocity, acceleration, force
What is a scalar quantity
A scalar quantity has magnitude but no specific direction
What is a vector quantity
A vector quantity has both magnitude and a specific direction
What is the equation for acceleration
a= v-u
——
t
What is acceleration measured in
Metres per second squared
What is Newton’s first law
Where the resultant force on a body is zero i.e the body is moving at a constant velocity or is it rest
What is Newton’s second law
States that, the resultant force on an object is directly proportional to its acceleration
What is the equation for force
F=ma
What is the equation for weight
Weight = mass x gravitational field strength
What is Newton’s third law
Every actions has an equal and opposite reaction
What is the equation for momentum
Momentum = mass x velocity (p=mv)
What is circular motion
An object in a circular orbit has constant speed and changing velocity due to its change in direction therefore it is accelerating
