Physics Revision Flashcards
What is a Vector?
Physical directions are called Vectors
Scalars
Physical quantities that don’t have a specific direction then are called scalars
Magnitude
The size of a quantity
Displacement
Distance without change of direction is called displacement
What do scale diagrams show
Scale diagrams show when more than one force acts on an object
Vector quantity
Is represented by an arrow in the direction of a vector
Newtons third law of motion
When two objects interact with each other
Resultant Force
A single force having the same effect as all forces acting on a object
Free body diagram
Shows forces acting on an object without any other objects or other forces shown.
Balanced Forces
Forces acting on a object
Parallelogram of forces
A scale diagram of two force vectors
Equilibrium
An object at rest is in equilibrium
Acceleration
The increase of speed or rate. Or The acceleration of an object is the rate of change of velocity for the object.
Equation for acceleration
Acceleration = final velocity - initial velocity
