What are Pilot Studies?
Are a small-scale trial run of a research study.
When do Pilot studies take place?
Before the full-scale research project begins
How many people are used for a pilot study?
A smaller number of participants who can be questioned afterwards about their experience.
What are the aims of piloting?
To check the research works as it’s intended to as it doesn’t have any extraneous variables and is practical
What is the benefit of piloting?
Any problems can be rectified before running the full scale study such as instructions and questions being clarified
What questions can be answered by using pilot studies?
-Do participants understand the instructions?
-Are the materials and timings appropriate?
-Have variables been operationalised sufficiently?
-Ask a few participants about their experience of taking part
