Plant Organ System Flashcards
Photosynthesis
Carbon dioxide + water -> glucose +oxygen 6CO2+6H2O→C6H12O6+6O2
How is a leaf adapted to photosynthesise?
Lots of chloroplast. Stomata to allow gas exchange. Spaces between cells to allow,movement or gas
Aerobic respiration word and symbol equation
C6 H12 O6 + 6O2 → 6CO2 + 6H2Oglucose + oxygen -> carbon dioxide + water
Xylem properties and function
Made up of dead cells Thick cellulose wall, strengthened with a lignin wall. Made up of fibres. Function: transfer water and minerals up the plant. hollow tube.
Phloem properties and function
Made up of living cells. Permeable cell walls. Thin cell wall. Carries food and nutrients round the plant . Cell wall made of cellulose.
What is transpiration?
plant opens its stomata to let in carbon dioxide water on the surface of the cells of the spongy mesophyll and palisade mesophyll evaporates and diffuses out of the leaf
How does water get into a plant?
1, absorbed from soil through root hairs
2. Transported up the stem to leaves
